With stay at home orders in place, many people have made the transition to working at home in the last few weeks. It can be a massive change for people more familiar with heading out to their workplace every day, so it is essential to take steps to take care of your health and wellbeing during the coronavirus pandemic. The good news is, we have some tips to stay healthy while working from home during the current coronavirus pandemic!
Set Boundaries
It is vital to keep your work life and personal life separate, but that can be challenging if your work is now happening at home! Setting boundaries can make this separation easier and will improve your mental wellbeing. Here are a few tips for keeping these two parts of your life separate.
- Maintain regular working hours and stop when those hours are up
- Try to create a workspace for yourself that can be shut away at the end of the day
- Get dressed as though you are going to work – don’t be tempted to stay in your PJs
- Try to encourage the family not to bother you at work – although this can be difficult if you also have kids home from school
Keep Active
Staying at home means you are probably a lot less active than you were when you had to leave for work every day. Make sure you stay active by scheduling proper breaks and using them to take a short walk or do some simple workouts at home. You should be able to find many tutorials and videos on social media and YouTube at the moment with physical trainers and gyms offering up free online content during lockdown!
Protect Your Mental Health
Don’t neglect your mental health while working at home. It can be very isolating to be sitting at home when you are used to being in a busy workplace. It can take a toll on your mental health. Especially when coupled with the additional stress, we are all feeling right now because of the coronavirus pandemic. Try to arrange Zoom or Skype chats with colleagues during break time so you can socialize like you would in the break room at work.
Eat Healthy Food
One of the significant issues that many people struggle with when they first start working from home is gaining a few pounds by making unwise snack choices. When you are at home, you have unlimited access to your kitchen, and it is much easier to have extra coffee breaks, and you may find yourself snacking more throughout the day. Try combatting this by planning your meals ahead of time and reaching for healthier snacks like fruit instead of candy or chips.
